Today, metal-clad switchgear is widely used in power systems, making the stable and reliable operation of switchgear a top priority. Defects such as voids, impurities and spikes inside the insulation of medium-voltage electrical equipment cause the electric field distribution within the switchgear insulation to become uneven under strong electric fields. The field strength at the defect location increases, which can easily lead to discharge that does not penetrate the entire insulation at that location, i.e. partial discharge (PD). Partial discharge generally does not cause through-breakdown of the switchgear insulation, but it does cause local damage to the insulating medium. If it persists over time, it will under certain conditions destroy the electrical strength of the insulation and eventually cause insulation breakdown inside the switchgear. For electrical equipment, the occurrence of partial discharge is one of the important causes of insulation aging, deterioration or even damage, which can lead to equipment destruction and accidents; it is also a sign of degradation of insulation integrity. Therefore, monitoring and detecting partial discharge in electrical equipment is an important means of assessing insulation condition, and one of the effective measures for discovering latent faults, enabling early warning and preventing faults. The APD series medium-voltage switchgear partial discharge monitoring device detects partial discharge signals during the operation of electrical equipment through ultra-high frequency (UHF) sensors, transient earth voltage (TEV) sensors and acoustic emission (AE) sensors, thereby determining whether insulation hazards exist inside high-voltage electrical equipment, providing early warning and ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the power system.
