President of Botswana Duma Boko paid a state visit to China from Oct. 12 to 17, his first since taking office. In an exclusive interview with CMG's High-Level Interview program, he said China's zero-tariff policy for Africa has advanced trade and enhanced mutual trust between Africa and China, becoming an important pillar of South-South cooperation.
"China has never been an imperialist country. China has always acted with the utmost sincerity to ensure mutual respect. China does not seek unfair advantage from bilateral relations," Boko said. "That is why China introduced the zero-tariff measure to advance trade."
Asked how he views China's efforts to promote global trade facilitation and inclusive development, Boko said the policy "opens a door of opportunity" for these countries and eases the pressure that uncertainty and turbulence in international markets place on their economies.

"It has enhanced mutual trust between Africa and China and become an important pillar of South-South cooperation. China has set an example for South-South cooperation and keeps deepening it. This measure is therefore of great significance," he said.
China began implementing zero-tariff treatment for 53 African countries with diplomatic relations on May 1 this year, a move expected to expand agricultural and processed exports from the continent.
