OSLO, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese-brand cars accounted for 22.5 percent of new passenger car registrations in Norway in October, setting a new monthly record, data released by the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV) showed on Nov. 2.

A total of 3,534 new passenger cars from Chinese brands were registered in the Nordic country last month, up from 1,879 units a year earlier. The 22.5 percent share surpassed the previous record of 22.1 percent set in July, according to the federation.

At brand level, XPeng registered 932 cars in Norway in October, ranking fifth among all brands, while BYD registered 816 units. Changan jumped from 15 units in October last year to 339 units this year.

"Chinese car brands have in a short time become a fixed part of the Norwegian car market," said Geir Inge Stokke, head of the Norwegian Road Federation.

Overall, 15,725 new passenger cars were registered in Norway in October, up 41.2 percent year on year and the highest level for the month in more than 30 years. Fully electric vehicles accounted for 98.8 percent of the total.

The figures underline how quickly Chinese manufacturers have moved from niche players to mainstream suppliers in one of the world's most electrified vehicle markets, a shift that is also reshaping the competitive landscape for European automakers.
