AMMAN, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- China has advanced technologies and strong industrial capacity in renewable energy, energy storage and smart grids, and Jordan sees China as an important partner in modernizing its energy sector, Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh said in an interview with Xinhua.
Kharabsheh accompanied King Abdullah II on a visit to China in August. He said the visit allowed him to see firsthand China's remarkable achievements in science, innovation and energy, especially in renewables, storage and smart grids.
He said the memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation signed with China's National Energy Administration marks an important step from an overall cooperation framework to a more practical phase.
The two sides will explore cooperation in modernizing the national grid, storage systems, renewable energy, green hydrogen and green ammonia, and building an integrated system of clean energy industries and services.
This complements cooperation on environment and climate change and aligns with the goal of a more sustainable, efficient economy with lower emissions, he said.
Kharabsheh said Jordan's new national energy strategy focuses on developing and modernizing the sector, raising the share of renewables and upgrading the grid with battery storage and artificial intelligence.
Cooperation with China can help attract quality investment, develop new projects, create jobs and strengthen energy- and mining-related industries and services, raising local value added and the competitiveness of Jordan's economy.
He praised the contribution of Chinese companies to Jordan's energy self-reliance, saying cooperation allows Jordan to draw on China's experience in grid development and introduce advanced storage solutions to improve stability and reliability as renewable demand grows.
Chinese technology helps improve energy efficiency and reduce losses, with positive effects on water, industry and transport, he said, adding that energy cooperation can act as a catalyst for economic development and help Jordan become a regional hub for green energy and related services.
"Jordan has many opportunities, and we look forward to building successful partnerships with more Chinese partners, expanding cooperation to technology, innovation and knowledge transfer and helping build local value chains," he said.
