China's Zero-Tariff Policy Brings New Opportunities for China-Zimbabwe Agricultural Cooperation

Key tip: As China's full zero-tariff policy for 53 African countries with diplomatic relations draws near, more Chinese enterprises are coming to Zimbabwe to explore business opportunities.

As China’s full zero-tariff policy for 53 African countries with diplomatic relations draws near, more Chinese enterprises are coming to Zimbabwe to explore business opportunities. A matchmaking meeting between the Zimbabwean government and Chinese agricultural buyers was held in Manicaland Province on April 8, producing multiple cooperation intentions between Zimbabwean agricultural officials, farmers and Chinese buyers.

Zimbabwe’s trade promotion body CEO Allan Majuru said on site that Zimbabwean avocados, blueberries and macadamia nuts have won popularity in the Chinese market for their quality, and Zimbabwe is refining measures to use the zero-tariff policy to further expand agricultural exports to China.

’I believe strong Zimbabwe-China trade relations will boost Chinese buyers’ confidence. We look forward to Chinese traders strengthening cooperation with us for more growth opportunities,’ Majuru said.

Wang Nan, leader of the Chinese buyers’ delegation, said Chinese companies are optimistic about the export potential of Zimbabwe and other African countries. ’The companies accompanying us plan to sign a cooperation memorandum with Zimbabwean chili producers, with an expected purchase volume of 5,000 tons.’

Huang Minghai, economic and commercial counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, said the zero-tariff policy will further expand Zimbabwean agricultural exports to China and push the country’s transition from exporting primary agricultural products to high-value-added ones, helping diversify exports and strengthen economic resilience.

China will implement the full zero-tariff measure for 53 African countries from May 1, continue to promote joint development economic partnership agreements, and further expand access for African products via an upgraded ’green channel’.
