A commissioning ceremony for Phase I — a 1-million-kilowatt solar project of CGN’s northern Laos connectivity clean energy base — was held in Vientiane on April 7, attended by Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and some 200 government and business representatives from both countries.
Located in Meng Sai and Namor counties of Oudomxay Province, the project is expected to generate 1.65 billion kWh annually, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.3 million tons equivalent.
Lao Minister of Industry and Commerce Malaithong Kommasith said the project implements China-Laos power connectivity in a real way, creates large numbers of jobs and drives related industries — nearly 3,000 local jobs at the construction peak, according to the project owner.
China General Nuclear Power Group Chairman Yang Changli said 2026 is the ’China-Laos Friendship Year’, and CGN will accelerate follow-up clean energy projects across five northern Lao provinces, contributing more to a closer China-Laos community with a shared future through clean energy cooperation.
